Qualcomm SM6115 vs SM6350: Choosing the Right CarPlay AI Box for Your Line-up

Product Features

Compare the Qualcomm SM6115 (Android 13, 4G LTE) and SM6350 (Android 15, 5G) CarPlay AI Box platforms — CPU, storage, cellular, video and market fit, from ZESTECH.

Product Introduction

Every distributor eventually asks the same question: should we carry one CarPlay AI Box, or two? ZESTECH builds its CarPlay / Android Auto AI Boxes on two Qualcomm platforms — the cost-focused SM6115 and the 5G flagship SM6350 — and they are not competitors. They are two rungs of the same ladder. The SM6115 covers everyday connected-car demand at the sharpest cost; the SM6350 adds 5G, Cortex-A77 performance cores, Android 15 and a far higher storage ceiling. Get that split right and you serve both the volume channel and the premium shelf from a single supplier. This is the honest, spec-by-spec comparison we give to importers.

First, What a CarPlay AI Box Actually Does

A CarPlay AI Box plugs into the car’s factory CarPlay / Android Auto USB port. The original screen keeps its look and its buttons, but everything shown on it now runs on the box’s own Android system — Google Play, Google Maps, YouTube, split-screen apps, wireless CarPlay and Android Auto — with no modification to the original car system. Because the box carries the entire computing platform, the chipset inside it decides speed, network, video quality and how many years of app updates the product can survive. That is exactly why the SM6115-versus-SM6350 decision is really a decision about your market’s price point and its appetite for 5G.

It also helps to separate two things buyers often blend together: the Android version and the chipset. The Android number tells you how new the software feels on day one; the chipset tells you how much headroom the hardware has for the next two or three years of apps and updates. A box can run Android 15 on a slow platform and still feel dated, while a well-chosen platform keeps a slightly older Android feeling current. That is why we compare platforms here, not just version numbers — and why both of our AI Box families sit on genuine Qualcomm silicon.

One Platform Family, Two Very Different Jobs

1Entry tier — SM6115

Android 13 on an 11nm Qualcomm octa-core platform with 4G LTE and Adreno 610 graphics — the right answer for price-driven retail, tenders and first-time AI Box buyers.

2Flagship tier — SM6350

Android 15 on an 8nm platform with 5G Sub-3G, Cortex-A77 performance cores, Adreno 619 and up to 12GB + 256GB.

3Identical installation

Both plug into the factory CarPlay / Android Auto USB port. No cutting, no rewiring, no changes to the original car system.

4Identical app experience

Both run full Google Play, Google Maps, YouTube, split-screen multitasking and built-in wireless CarPlay / Android Auto.

Qualcomm SM6115 — The Volume Engine

The SM6115 is the platform we hand to buyers who need a proven AI Box at a landed cost that survives a crowded retail shelf. It runs Android 13 on an 11nm Qualcomm octa-core CPU — four Kryo Gold cores at 2.0GHz plus four Kryo Silver cores at 1.8GHz — with an Adreno 610 GPU, 4GB or 8GB of RAM and 64GB or 128GB of storage. Connectivity is honest and complete: 4G LTE CAT.4 for the SIM, dual-band 2.4 & 5GHz Wi-Fi, dual Bluetooth (5.0 + 5.1) and GPS / GLONASS / Beidou positioning with a built-in antenna. Video stays at 1080p@60fps across HEVC, H.264, H.265 and VP9, which is more than enough for maps, YouTube and mirroring on a factory screen that is usually 720p or 1080p anyway.

For most importers the SM6115 is the SKU that pays the bills. It is the price point that wins a marketplace listing or a tender, and it is where a first container usually starts — the buyer tests the concept, the packaging and the installation workflow at the lowest possible risk. When a customer’s customers mainly want wireless CarPlay, Google Maps and YouTube, the SM6115 delivers all of it without charging them for a 5G radio they will never switch on.

  • ✓Best for volume channels — mass retail, online marketplaces and tenders where the landed cost decides the sale
  • ✓Best for first-time AI Box buyers — a full Android + wireless CarPlay experience without the 5G premium
  • ✓What it is not — there is no 5G modem on this platform, and the CPU runs on A73/A53 cores rather than the newer A77 class

Qualcomm SM6350 — The 5G Flagship Platform

The SM6350 is a different animal. It runs Android 15 on an 8nm Qualcomm platform with a “big” cluster of two Cortex-A77 cores at 2.0GHz backed by six Cortex-A55 cores at 1.7GHz, and an Adreno 619 GPU. Memory scales to 12GB of LPDDR4X and storage to 256GB of eMMC, so offline maps, video and a long app list all fit comfortably. The headline is the integrated 5G Sub-3G SA modem — 1T2R with 256Q, rated up to 1Gbps down and 450Mbps up — sitting on top of the same 4G LTE CAT.4 fallback. Add HDMI In/Out as an option, dual-screen support up to 2520×1080@60fps, a wider GNSS set (GPS / GLONASS / Beidou and the extended Galileo / QZSS / SBAS options) and a -30°C to +75°C working range, and you have the SKU that carries a brand’s flagship banner.

  • ✓Best for premium shelves — where a 5G line on the box and the newest Android justify a higher retail price
  • ✓Best for fleet and hotspot use — one 5G connection shared to every device in the cabin
  • ✓Best for a hero SKU — the product you put on the poster, in the booth and at the top of the catalogue

SM6115 vs SM6350: The Full Specification Comparison

The two platforms share far more than they differ — both are Qualcomm, both plug into the factory USB port, both run Google services and both convert wired CarPlay into wireless. Read the table below as two columns of one story: identical installation and identical apps on the left, and a clear performance and connectivity step up on the right. Only a handful of rows — the operating system, the CPU cluster, the cellular radio, the storage ceiling and the video profile — are the lines that actually move a purchase decision.

What Does NOT Change Between the Two

Installation and apps stay identical

Whichever platform you pick, the workflow for you and your installer does not change: plug into the factory CarPlay / Android Auto USB port, keep the original screen, touch, rotary knob and steering-wheel controls, and run the same Google apps with the same split-screen and mirroring features. A customer who buys the SM6115 box today can move to the SM6350 box tomorrow and never relearn a single step.

Which Platform Fits Which Market?

Volume & price-driven markets

SM6115 — for channels where the landed cost decides the sale: mass retail, online marketplaces and price-sensitive tenders.

Premium & 5G-ready markets

SM6350 — where 5G, the newest Android and a flagship spec sheet justify a higher shelf price and a stronger margin.

A two-tier line-up

Many importers stock both: the SM6115 as the volume SKU and the SM6350 as the hero product — one brand, two price points, one supplier.

The practical answer for most buyers is not “either/or” but “in what order”. Start with the platform that matches the price point you already sell at, get the packaging and installation right, then add the second tier once your channel starts asking for 5G. Because both platforms share the same factory-USB installation, the same app experience and the same accessory kit, adding the second SKU costs you almost nothing in training, stock-keeping or support.
